Leak powder is used to detect compromised filter bags, seals, tubesheets, or other ares with the baghouse system. The powder is introduced into the system either from the dirty air plenum, or a collection point in the system. As the powder flows through the system, trace amounts are deposited in areas that have come into contact with the powder. A maintenance technician will then perform a visual inspection of the entire baghouse with a black light which causes the leak powder to glow.
Use one (1) pound of powder is required for every 1000 square feet of filter area in the collector. Always round up to the nearest full pound for ease of use.
To Calculate Filter Area in Dust Collector:
Diameter of bag multiplied by 3.14157; multiplied by the bag length in inches; divided by 144; multiplied by the number of bags in the collector; total equals the total media area.
To Calculate Pounds of Leak Powder:
Divide the total media area by 1000 to get the number of pounds of tracer compound required (round to the nearest full pound).
